Our Designs
We’re a 21st century company, we believe true craftsmanship has been lost in the age of mass-production, which has led to all things being made with less care and attention. As a company that wants to live in a better tomorrow, we aim to help our customers connect with their heirloom jewels and reintroduce a sense of awe and wonder into life.
Founder’s Note
I created Mauka & Makaii because I was frustrated with every pair of earrings that I tried. All I wanted were simple earrings that wouldn’t cause a painful reaction, but I couldn’t find anything that worked.
I had given up wearing earrings years before because every pair (even “nickel-free” and “hypoallergenic” earrings) almost instantaneously caused soreness, swelling, and bleeding.
I tried so many pairs of earrings with the same results every time: pain and frustration. In my search for safe earrings, I discovered that I didn’t just have sensitive ears, I had actually developed a contact allergy to metal from years of wearing earrings made with reactive materials.
Armed with the problem, I started buying silver jewellery and I knew that I had found my solution, fine metal which I have been searching for but as silver costs much I wanted to be affordable with the quality made till heirlooms with which I feel my presence in the public.
Although I didn’t set out to start a business, I knew that I had discovered something that could change how people wore jewelry. I decided that if no one else was going to create a model which is suitable for artisans, designers and individuals, then I would have to be the one to do it. And from there, Mauka Makaii was born.
